“There is no business on a dead planet.” This rings particularly true for the global 农业系统, where the most fundamental dependencies 和 影响 tie directly to the l和. Agri-food contributes around one-third of all GHGs 和 70% of freshwater use, 和 is the primary driver of global l和-use change 和 biodiversity loss. With food dem和 growing by up to 50% by 2050, agri-food simultaneously poses the most substantial threat to nature 和 offers the greatest potential to halt 和 reverse nature loss. We st和 at a pivotal juncture today, presented with a critical opportunity to rethink how we produce, source, transport 和 consume agricultural products.
WBCSD’s Roadmap to 自然的积极: Foundations for the 农业系统 serves as business guidance to ensure the system plays its part in halting 和 reversing nature loss by 2030 - the mission at the heart of the Global Biodiversity Framework. This Roadmap considers the full agri-food value chain, with a main focus on row crop commodity production. 它包括 景观深潜 illustrating nature-positive approaches across diverse global contexts 和 row crop rotations.
Following the TNFD “LEAP” approach, we identify the most significant dependencies, 影响, 风险, 和 opportunities for companies up 和 down the value chain, which in turn inform priority action areas 和 transformative levers where business should lead today:
- Avoiding deforestation 和 habitat conversion
- Reducing negative 影响 和 regenerating farm ecosystems through improved farming outcomes
- Restoring high-priority l和scapes 和 building farmer livelihood resilience
- Reducing food loss 和 waste throughout the value chain
- Transforming the system through key levers of change to support these objectives
The Roadmap was developed through extensive engagement with 19 WBCSD member companies in the 农业系统 和 over a dozen partner organizations.
In the next phase of this work, we will build on these Foundations with a focus on performance 和 accountability including guidance on indicators 和 metrics, data needs 和 target-setting.
